Brazil

Brazil is as an important growth market for Statkraft, with strategic potential to strengthen and increase the company's generation of renewable energy and trading of electricity worldwide.

Statkraft has been present in Brazil since March 2012 when SN Power acquired a minority stake in the renewable energy company Statkraft Energias Renováveis S.A (former Desenvix). In 2015, Statkraft increased its shareholding to 81.3 per cent and integrated the company into Statkraft. In 2023 the remaining shares was aqcuired and Statkraft Energias Renováveis became a fully-owned subsidiary of Statkraft.

The headquarters are located in Florianópolis (SC) and are home to the business development and structuring activities in the country, as well as the management of our Brazilian power plants.

There are currently 18 operational hydropower plants and 8 wind farms in operation or under construction in Statkraft's Brazilian portfolio, totalling an installed capacity of more than 2000 MW. Almost 300 people are employed in Brazil, working in the different regions where the company is present.

Market operations

We provide services for commercial and industrial customers from various segments via our offices in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. We prioritize long-term relationships with our customers and customize solutions to their energy needs.

We are the first generator to offer origin-guaranteed trackable renewable energy in Brazil. The International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) helps us certify the source of energy and ensures that the operation is sustainable, with respect to the rules and procedures of the International REC Standard - an institution that certifies tracking of internationally recognized, tradable and reliable electricity attributes (RECs).

Our power plants

Statkraft’s power plants in Brazil are mostly concentrated in the South and Southeast of the country, with potential for expansion in the Northeast.

The location of our power plants is strategic. Hydropower plants are close to major equipment manufacturers, while our wind farms are located in areas with optimal wind conditions.

By 2025, we will expand our business in Brazil through acquisitions and participations in government auctions for new projects, with a focus on wind and solar projects. This expansion is expected to be a combination of M&A and project development (greenfield).
